We take pride in the products and services we provide to our valuable customers. To help you make informed buying decisions we often perform our non-scientific evaluations of the products and services we provide. These evaluations are not intended to discredit any claims made by others about specific products or services.
Testing and Product Evaluations
Understandably, our customers do not have the time to complete their own testing and product evaluations. Most of us depend upon companies to be honest and reliable. Providing accurate information about the performance of their products and services.
Not that we do not believe the information provided by the manufacturers of products that we use in producing our final products but our reputation is on the line and that is too valuable to leave in the hands of others.
Therefore, we complete our own testing to evaluate the products we sell. Our testing is NOT scientific and is not intended to sway anyone from purchasing any product or service. Sharing our results is nothing more than a friend helping a friend.
Keep in mind that our testing goes far beyond the recommendations of any manufacturer. Every manufacturer indicates that for lasting results it is best not to use a dishwasher to clean double-wall steel tumblers, especially decorated tumblers. Every manufacturer of adhesive products suggests hand washing of products where adhesive stickers are applied. Every manufacturer of garments suggests washing inside out using non-liquid detergent and cold water.
The equipment and supplies we use to perform our evaluations are typical household appliances and supplies.
We use a standard washer/dryer pair for our evaluations. During our evaluations, we launder garments using the recommended care instructions. We then alter the laundering to include washing in hot water, using fabric softener and bleach. We also dry on high heat and iron the garments. We complete five cycles following instructions and five cycles of improper laundering and report our findings.
Stainless Steel Straws
We use a Hotpoint home model dishwasher using Cascade Total Clean Detergent Pods, the optional Hot Pre-wash Option, Heavy Wash Cycle, and Drying Cycle. Each complete wash takes over an hour.
We also performed a hand wash using Dawn dishwashing soap, a straw cleaning brush, warm water, towel dry. Each wash takes about one minute.
Our dishwashing testing has clearly shown that straws, specifically stainless steel straws DO NOT get clean in the dishwasher. No damage was noted to the straw from the use of the dishwasher. Each test resulted in dirty swabs and often a taste of soap.
Our handwashing testing appears to be the best cleaning solution to obtain good results. A thorough rinsing is highly needed to ensure there is no soap taste.
OUR RECOMMENDATION
So it is highly recommended that your stainless steel straws should be cleansed by hand using warm water, dishwashing soap, and a clean straw brush and rinsed thoroughly to avoid soap residue.
Tumblers and other hard-service decorative products -

Many tumblers, especially those that are insulated, cannot be put in the dishwasher because the high heat from the drying cycle can damage the seals between the inner and outer walls, compromising their ability to keep drinks hot or cold by allowing air to enter the insulated space; essentially ruining the temperature control function of the tumbler. These warranties are found on the websites of a well-known manufacturers of tumblers. The warranties range in covered time. However, the exceptions lead one to wonder what exactly the warranty covers.

If a defect occurs as the result of the product’s intended use according to the care instructions during the Warranty Period, we will replace, at our discretion, without charge, the defective product or part.
If the product has been customized by YETI, the customized mark will also be replaced. The warranty does not cover defects caused by third-party modifications, repairs, or replacement parts. Punctures, scratches, normal wear and tear, and the natural breakdown of colors and materials over extended time and use are not warranted."
"STANLEY STAINLESS STEEL VACUUM LIFETIME WARRANTY
Our products are warranted to be free from defects in material and workmanship at the time of the initial purchase. This lifetime warranty covers degradation of thermal performance.
This warranty applies only when our products are put to normal use and cared for according to the care and use instructions applicable to the products.
This warranty applies only to products purchased from Stanley or an authorized seller.
NOTE: We do not cover damage resulting from natural disasters or accidents, such as fires. This warranty does not apply to any non-stainless-steel part.
This warranty also does not apply to:
Defects or damage resulting from (1) any failure to follow the care & use instructions, (2) accidents, (3) post-purchase modifications to the product (for example, engraving, accessories etc.), abuse, misuse, or neglect.
The warranty on our drinkware and food containers (not including lids, seals and straws) will last the life of the product.
Stanley reserves the right to require proof of purchase or return of the defective product. At our discretion, we may ask you to verify the defect through other means, such as sending photos or videos of the product."
Most manufacturers do not have official warranties. Not because they don't back their products, but because when written like the one above it appears there are very few reasons to resolve a product concern. My experience has been most manufacturers especially those with a USA presence will address each concern on an individual basis and do everything possible to please the customer.
